PROMOTING PEACE AS A LIFESTYLE

MESSAGE FROM ERICA
June is Gun Violence Awareness Month and LIFE Camp has been on the move! This month, take the #ALLIN4PEACE challenge: to lead with love, promote peace as a lifestyle, practice peaceful conflict resolution, and extend the bond of peace that leads to total community transformation. When we collaborate, we change the narrative of so many lives. Let's make history. Together.

THE MARATHON CONTINUES

LIFE Camp joined a coalition of gun violence prevention organizations to walk across the the Brooklyn Bridge for the "Walk in Solidarity With Survivors of Gun Violence", on Saturday, June 8th.
The walk was done in support of those who've experienced the trauma of gun violence, and to demonstrate to our elected officials the the need to take immediate action.
PASSING THE TORCH
We began the month of June with a Queens Town Hall meeting to address gun-violence, which is both a public health and safety issue. The Police Commissioner of Queens North and South, along with Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, were among those that were  in attendance at this open public forum. LIFE Camp Youth and Community leaders were in full force representing South Jamaica Queens.
Here is a photo of one of LIFE Camp's Youth Advocates asking panelists about the implementation of various prevention strategies to keep our streets safe this summer.
ON STAGE @ THE TONY'S

On Sunday, June 9th, Erica Ford and LIFE Camp took center stage at this year's Tony's with Level Forward and Oklahoma!, who won for best musical to amplify gun-violence prevention awareness.

WE NEED YOU
Peace is a process. Part of this process includes equipping everyday people with the tools they need in order to o resolve conflict peacefully. The New York City Crisis Management System trains and deploys VIPS (Violence Intervention and Prevention Specialists) to high-risk areas to help de-escalate gang violence and retaliation, teach non-violent conflict resolution, and to promote peaceful alternatives. The Crisis Management System is directly responsible for a 15% overall decrease in shootings in New York City, with as much as an 80% in individual service areas, and 0% shootings in areas directly supported by VIPS. The system works. Help us to strengthen this system and expand our work to  more communities in need. LIFE Camp is a tax-exempt, 501C3 organization. Your contribution is tax-deductible. And life-saving.
